Born in London and raised between China, England, and Switzerland, he grew up in a cosmopolitan family. Despite the early loss of both his parents, he cherishes happy memories and holds deep admiration for his father—especially for his humanitarian work during the Spanish Civil War and in Hiroshima. Refusing to be defined solely as “the son of,” he chose a diplomatic career to forge his own path. He also shares a moving story about a man who had been saved by his father and later returned to thank him with fifty roses—a gesture forever etched in his memory.
Interview with Michael Gassner, expert based in Geneva Michael Gassner resides in Geneva and works full-time as the head of Islamic finance at a Swiss private bank. Originally from Germany, he began his career in the "New Economy" before transitioning into finance. He has worked as a financial consultant in Saudi Arabia and Europe, specializing in Islamic finance. Currently, he is also developing an online course on the subject.
Paul-André Ramseyer, ambassadeur suisse : J'ai eu des parents voyageurs. Ce récit retrace l’histoire de la famille Ramseyer, enracinée depuis 150 ans à Versoix. Issu d’un milieu rural protestant, le père de l’auteur, orphelin, devient jeune banquier puis part en Valais pour un projet minier qui échoue. Il y rencontre sa future épouse, une catholique valaisanne. Après une mission en Afrique pour une société commerciale, il revient fonder une famille à Versoix. Le texte évoque l’attachement aux valeurs suisses traditionnelles : simplicité, travail, épargne, transmission familiale. Il souligne aussi les tensions entre foi, colonisation, et modernité, et l’impact durable de l’amour familial dans une vie marquée par l’absence et la guerre.
L’auteur, né à Budapest d’une mère hongroise et d’un père diplomate suisse, évoque son enfance marquée par de nombreux déménagements à travers le monde. Bien qu’il ait quitté la Hongrie très jeune, son héritage culturel et linguistique y reste profondément ancré. After a 25-year career in finance, he has now turned his attention to the world of crypto-currencies. Between trials and successes, his family and cultural roots remain his anchor.
« Pamir’s bridges » est une association comptant environ 150 membres en Suisse, composée de Suisses et d’étrangers, tant adhérents que non-membres. Fondée en 2001, cette association a vu le jour suite à une observation poignante réalisée il y a 20 ans, lors d’un trek à cheval au Kirghizistan, dans la région de Koumtor. À cette époque, le constat était frappant : d’immenses pâturages verdoyants étaient dépourvus d’animaux tels que moutons, chevaux, vaches ou yaks. Interrogés, les villageois expliquèrent que l’absence d’animaux était due à la destruction des ponts, les privant ainsi de l’accès à ces riches pâturages oubliés.
